Smoke and Zest Gin was originally launched back in 2019 as a member of our Cottage Series Gins. After a great reception, we've decided to bring it back...this time in a 70cl bottle!
This unique and innovative botanical masterpiece was born in the heart of Fife, where Kingsbarns and Darnley's Distilleries share the same sacred land. This exceptional gin has been meticulously crafted to pay homage to our two expertly crafted spirits.
The making of Smoke and Zest Gin saw our Gin Distiller embark on a journey of innovation and collaboration. He worked closely with his own family and the talented team at Kingsbarns Distillery to bring this unique flavour profile to life. This gin, rooted in collaboration and shared heritage, beautifully celebrates the Fife-grown barley carefully chosen for its sister brand, Kingsbarns Single Malt Whisky, distilled at the same location on the historic East Newhall Farm, just outside the charming village of Kingsbarns.
Our distiller enlisted the invaluable expertise of his family, who are proud owners of a commercial smoker, to artfully infuse the malted barley with smoky nuances, all carefully sourced from pine wood chips. To enhance the smoky dimension, the introduction of Lapsang Souchong tea, traditionally smoked over pinewood, adds an exotic twist, with cool menthol notes that further elevate the gin's complexity.
As a testament to our commitment to capturing the essence of our surroundings, we've incorporated rowanberry and coriander from the distillery grounds, along with zesty orange peel from Turkey, all of which contribute to the gin's delightful sweetness and zest.
