The first relase of Kingsbarns Single Malts Scotch Whisky was the Founders’ Reserve Inaugural Release; comprising of several casks filled in 2015 using the wood policy set under the expert consultancy of the late Dr Jim Swan. Each cask was carefully selected by Distillery Manager Peter Holroyd and the Wemyss family. 1st fill bourbon barrels, supplied by Heaven Hill Kentucky distillery, were chosen as they imparted succulent wood tannins that balance well with the complex Kingsbarns spirit to represent this new single malt Scotch whisky in its lightest style.
All Founders’ Reserve releases will be drawn from a combination of different wood expressions and ages, as well as always being bottled cask strength, non chill-filtered and with their natural colour.
Each release is bottled in a bespoke, 700ml Kingsbarns Distillery Single Malt bottle and presentation box, both of which draw their inspiration from the ‘Doocot’ (or Dovecot) which is the oldest, most striking feature of the restored farm steading in which Kingsbarns Distillery and Visitor Centre is accommodated.
You can see the first cask we filled on display in the "doocot" in our visitor centre.
Our vision is to release a number of different expressions of our whisky to reflect the versatility of our light and fruity style.
For whisky fans interested in obtaining this piece of whisky history as well as the rest of the five exclusive releases, membership to the Kingsbarns Founders’ club is still available to join for £500 plus postage.
Dream to Dram
Named to mark the Wemyss Family’s vision to bring malt whisky distilling
to their Fife home, the new release is a truly local dram, having been slowly crafted with barley harvested exclusively from the golden fields of East Fife
The result is a beautifully light, clean yet complex Lowland style malt whisky which perfectly captures the essence of this quiet and enchanting corner of Scotland.
Dream to Dram is packaged in gentle shades of blue, gold and brown to symbolise the natural elements of the East Neuk, with a pigeon motif representing the historic ‘doocot’ (Scots for dovecot) that sits at the heart of the distillery – a restored farm steading dating back to the 1800s.
The natural elements on Kingsbarns Distillery’s doorstep, combined with superior wood choice and long, slow fermentation give Dream to Dram its remarkably complex and distinctive Lowland character: light, intensely fruity, floral and balanced, with colour and richness coming from the wood. On the nose there is banana, pineapple syrup and summer berries, with a slight herbal note. There is soft toffee, custard pastry and redcurrants on the palate, with a finish of ginger syrup.
