Kingsbarns is in the cultural hub of Fife - surrounded by villages and towns that hold some of the most interesting stories and history at their core. With activities ranging from a secret nuclear bunker to a 10th century cathedral, there is plenty to do in the area.
Cambo Estate
We are located on land leased from the Cambo Estate, the entrance to which is just north of the turning for the distillery. The estate is home to wonderful woodland walk and down the burn all the way to the coast. There is a visitor centre, cafe and many buildings dotted around the estate that can be walked to. Perhaps the most enchanting walled garden is situated behind the stables and is filled with experimental beds growing plants from all over the world.
Kingsbarns Golf Links
Also on the Cambo Estate, this world renown golf course has quickly become a 'must-play' course on any trip to Scotland - and given the quality and heritage of Scottish golf, that is quite some accolade. The course welcomes any and all visitors and regularly hosts competitions such as the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Kingsbarns Beach
A classic hidden gem of a beach, like many in Scotland, is located just a short walk from the distillery. There is an abundance of golden sand, shallow water, rock pools and stunning views out to sea and along the coast. The Cheesy Toast Shack is located just off the beach and makes a mouth-wateringly good toastie should you fancy one!
Anstruther
This noble little town hugs the coast to the south of our distillery and tourists and locals alike can be found bustling around no matter the weather. There is a large harbour home to fishing and pleasure boats with a deep tie to the Herring industry. The Scottish Fisheries Museum is a highlight and tells the story of the Scottish fishing industry, its fisherman and their families. The shoreline is home to many shops and cafes, and it would be rude not to tuck into an Anstruther fish and chips - a famous delicacy (ed. tried and tested and would certianly recommend!).
Scotland's Secret Bunker
Located inland just a 9 minute drive from the distillery you can find Scotland's (not-so) Secret Bunker. This immersive dive into an underground Cold War nuclear bunker is an informative and interactive activity for all ages. Built in 1953 and kept a secret for 50 years by the British Government, an unsuspecting farmhouse covers the entrance to this 24,000 sq feet Cold War era Command Centre.
St Andrews
And of course there is the historical coastal town of St Andrews made famous by golf and the Chariots of Fire. The Old Course is the oldest, and most famous, golf course in the world and has played host to 30 Open Championships since the first ball was struck in the 15th Century. Chariots of Fire, the film chronicling Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams' 1924 Olympic campaign, made famous the West Sands beach where the actors ran to Vangelis' award winning soundtrack.
St Andrews Cathedral and Castle are also popular sites as well as the old town streets now home to many shops, cafes and restaurants.

Coaltown of Wemyss is a mining village situated near Wemyss Castle, the ancestral home of the Wemyss family, who have deep roots in Fife and a long-standing connection to whisky, Drawing inspiration from this rich heritage, we are delighted to introduce Coaltown to our core range of Kingsbarns Single Malts.
We pride ourselves on maintaining an expert balance between our light spirit style and the quality cask influence, ensuring that the casks compliment rather than overpower the whisky. This expression is a testament to our dedication to creating harmonious and nuanced Lowland whiskies.

Our Journey
In 2023, we launched Doocot, the next evolution of our Distillery's flagship whisky, showcasing how additional years of maturation have refined and enhanced our classic Lowland spirit style. Since then, Doocot has been honoured with the World Whisky Award gold for Lowland Single Malt, a testament to the expertise and craftsmanship that define every expression we create.
Building on this success, we are excited to introduce Kingsbarns Coaltown, designed to demonstrate our mastery in achieving a delicate balance of cask and spirit influence in our whiskies. Kingsbarns Coaltown will become the third expression in our core range, offering a truly unique Kingsbarns flavour experience. This new release represents our Lowland take on a smoky whisky, showcasing our innovative spirit and dedication to excellence.
